Main Events
Richard stops Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander and Kahlan from arguing about how to approach Tamarang. He proposes a plan: Kahlan will enter as the Mother Confessor doing her duty, Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander will be her cloud reader advisor, and Richard will be the Seeker, her protector. This approach will give Queen Milena something familiar (a confessor) while also giving her something to worry about (the Seeker and cloud reader), minimizing the risk of a fight. They agree to the plan, and Kahlan explains the protocol for courtiers.
That night, Richard is on watch when he senses something watching him. A massive wolf attacks, but instead of attacking Richard, it kills a heart hound that was behind him. The wolf is revealed to be Brophy, who was once a man. Kahlan explains that Brophy was falsely accused of killing a child and requested a confessor to prove his innocence. After Kahlan touched him, a wizard changed him into a wolf. Brophy has been following them to protect Kahlan. Richard asks Brophy what it was like when Kahlan touched him, and Brophy describes the overwhelming need to please her, the fear of displeasing her, and the joy of being able to satisfy her requests.
